Performers:

Wendy Bross Stuart was born and raised in the New York area, received her B.A. and Associate of Music from McGill University and her Master of Music from UBC. She has written two academic books on Indigenous Music, and produced four CD’s of Yiddish music with the late and great Claire Klein Osipov (z’l). She studied and performed Japanese koto and shamisen in Japan.

She and her daughter, Jessica, created the 2-CD set of Joan Beckow (z’l) music. With her husband, Ron, she created 8 videos in CapeTown, South Africa. See culturalodysseyfilms.com.

Wendy has worked in musical theatre – for Theatre Under The Stars, the Arts Club and many other companies. (31 summers at Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance.) Wendy is a Life Fellow of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre where she created the musical portion of Yom HaShoah for over 15 years.

In 2020, Wendy received the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Association (GVPTA) Career Achievement Award.

Rabecca Talbot has been performing with Wendy throughout her career as a musical theatre artist; from their earliest collaboration in Gotta Sing Gotta Dance’s 1997 summer session at the JCC to recording Joan Beckow’s legacy album in 2022. Her love of the tunes of Gershwin, Bernstein and Berlin grew from watching old movie musicals with her mom to performing them live on stage throughout North America. Most recently you may have seen Rabecca on stage alongside husband Todd Talbot performing the Gershwin songbook in Royal City’s production of Crazy For You.

Tzimmes Trio (pronounced: tsi’- mess), has always been committed to presenting Jewish Music in its many facets – everything from Middle Eastern (Mizrahi/Hebrew) to Eastern European (Klezmer/Yiddish) to Mediterranean (Sephardi/Ladino), and contemporary musical vernaculars. New settings of traditional repertoire alternate with completely original creations.

The concert trio consists of:

Moshe Denburg (Voice, Guitar, Band Leader), originally from Montreal, came to the west coast in 1982. He has traveled and studied music worldwide, including Israel, where he lived for 7 years. He has been a musician all his life, singing and songwriting in Jewish and Middle Eastern idioms extensively. He is an accomplished composer, and his works have been performed, recorded, and broadcast all over the world. As Composer/Arranger for Tzimmes, Moshe has given the group its overall musical direction since its inception.

Yona Bar-Sever (E. Bass, Guitar, Voice, Djembe) was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel, where he was a much sought after Bass player. For a number of years he earned his livelihood playing nightly at the prestigious Khan Club in Jerusalem, accompanying in a wide variety of styles, from Rock to Hassidic to Middle Eastern to Israeli Folk. He moved to Canada in 1975 and has lived in Vancouver ever since. Today he divides his time between music making and personal counselling. Whether on Guitar, Electric Bass, Vocals, or Hand Drums, his Salonikan roots lend Tzimmes a Mediterranean and Sephardic mood.

Saul Berson (Alto Sax, Clarinet, Flute) is a multi-instrumentalist who has been exploring an extensive array of stylistic ground for the past 25 years. His musical abilities span a wide range, and include klezmer, jazz, and inter-cultural music. A core member of Tzimmes, Saul lends to the band a tremendously versatile instrumental resource. He is an accomplished jazz composer as well, having released several highly acclaimed albums.
